We were so saddened to hear about Bills passing. The memories we have from the school years, soccer, the lake house and of course Edison will never be forgotten. He always called me Coach and we will always remember him as our friend

We met Bill in St James and have known him nearly 10 years. We had the pleasure of enjoying many social activities together with him and Angela, including a trip to hear Billy Joel. Bill was opinionated and loved a good banter with friends. He roared like a lion, but was truly a lamb. He was so very proud of himself when he cooked his infamous Laddyboy sauce for his St James friends. There are so many wonderful memories of sharing meals, holidays, and laughter together.
Bill loved his family. He was a good friend that will truly be missed.

Bill hired me as advertising manager at Chase PFS One World Trade Center in 1985. He was the best boss, amazing friend and career mentor. We kept in touch all these years especially with our annual birthday texts and calls. I am going to miss him so much.
With Heartfelt Sympathy,
Rosemary Palazzo

Bill and I grew up across the street from each other and spent 8 years together at Our Lady of Fatima school. My family moved to Jackson Heights in 1959 and the McGreevy’s were one of the first families we met. We spent most of our youth playing sports in the”alley” behind my parents’s house. Times were so different back then. I think we were in eighth grade when my godfather gave me tickets to the Notre Dame Navy football game because he was unable to go himself. Bill and I took a train to Penn Station and then another train to Penn Station in Philadelphia. Hard to believe that our parents allowed us to travel that far on our own but we managed to get there and back without any issues. A few years before that we would bike our way to the World’s Fair in Flushing and spend full days before returning home.
We went to different High Schools and Colleges but would continue our friendship. Boys will be boys and while our group of friends would have occasional disagreements through the years we remained lifelong friends. We graduated from college in 1974 and set out into adulthood. While advancing his education at St. John’s, Bill met Angela Langone and as the saying goes “the rest is history“. Turns out that Angela had a girlfriend named Jane Pfaff. Jane and I were introduced via a blind date with Bill and Ange and have been happily married now for over 45 years. I am eternally grateful that we had that date and can’t begin to imagine how different my life would be if it hadn’t happened.
Over the years time and distance have limited our ability to interact directly with Bill and Ange but we have lasting memories of boating in Pennsylvania and we were able to visit them in North Carolina.Bill was always a gracious host and enjoyed entertaining company. We’ve seen our children grow up, get married and have children of their own. We vacationed together on several occasions and I am most grateful that were able to spend a week at sea just a few weeks ago.
It seems surreal that he is gone after being with him so recently. Bill was always considered to be lucky and perhaps the fact that he passed so quickly was his final bit of good luck. Unfortunately it makes it that much more difficult for the rest of us. He left a lasting impression on everyone that he met. I know he will be missed by many but I’m confident we’ll met again in the next life. Thanks for being such a great lifelong friend and making an indelible impact on my life.

This Bill and myself (Paul Langone) My guess is 1978. We were mighty hunters and the chipmunk on the hood was killed by a cat! Fun times in Middleburgh NY.
RIP Bill!

We became lifelong friends at about age six. Bill was an essential component of our gang of guys from the very beginning. There were 3 Bills in our crew, and so he was assigned the name “Greeves.”
Though he has left us for now, we have precious memories of wonderful times together.
He was furious when the parimutuel clerk at Yonkers Raceway printed him the wrong Trifecta numbers. But only until those exact horses came in! That provided him bragging rights for weeks.
Bill always lived entirely by his own rules. ‘No’ to hiking, ‘Yes’ to sitting and smoking cigars. (I reminded myself to avoid booking a downwind cabin on cruises.)
He was a ruthless poker player. He could bluff with the best of them and raise the stakes till we would all bail out. He rarely ever left the table behind.
Bill was the first one of us to own a lot of things. When we’d shop, he would look around the store and say “I wish I needed something.” And he was happy to share what he had.
As kids, he and I were both stubborn and hard-headed, which came to fisticuffs occasionally. But we were always together laughing and buying each other drinks that night. That was costly. He drank good scotch.
He and I were both opinionated and could be a bit ‘independent.’ But we laughed and enjoyed our ‘passionate’ debates. Neither one of us were often persuaded.
Bill was a very good athlete. Great at baseball. And although shorter than most of us, he always held his own on the basketball court and gridiron as well.
He was the only guy who could ever convince me to shoot a gun and he probably regretted it, having to teach me how.
Before any of us owned cars, he would get his hands on Aunt Winnie’s little green Mustang. She’d have a hard time getting it back from him! Bill would take us all over in it. Eventually, he got his own broken-down little wreck, which when loaded with the gang, could only travel about as fast as the mailman could walk.
I envied how he always handled his boat like a pro, even in heavy winds.
He was a great friend who grew into a wonderful family man.
When Bill and Ange eventually moved far away, we saw each less frequently and I missed his company. I grew to love you Bill and will miss you dearly until we are together again in the next life.
